AMBITION

It is Yakiniku! But they are indeed one of the few Yakiniku places that provides lemon for your gyutan and they also have a step by step How to Yakiniku guide for people who seldom or new to yakiniku.

LOCATION

Located at Cuppage Terraces, about 10 -15min walk from Somerset Station. The eatery has 2 floors, the 1st floor are mainly bar seats and the 2nd floor consist of individual tables. Don’t be disheartened if the 1st floor looks full, they may still have tables available on the 2nd floor, but we still do recommend to make reservations. We were there at around 7pm on a weekday and before 8pm the place was already full house. The floor of the eatery is a little oily, pretty common for a BBQ place, so just be extra careful if you have a slippery footwear. Not too smoky, we do have a slight BBQ smell on us after dinner. Fabric refreshener is provided at the entrance, grab a few sprays if you need it. They also provide Listerine mouthwash in the toilet.

APPEARANCE

Normal plating, pretty beef. You can see the freshness in the marbled beef. Apparently, we heard from the waitress that for some of the meats, they cut only when people order them, probably thats why they are unlike some places where the meat comes on a bloody plate.

TASTE

Not a veg place, you came here to eat meat! The tenderness, sweet-tasting fat that melts in your mouth. The Omi beef is generally considered as one of the top 3 beef in Japan, the oldest brand of Japanese beef of approximately 120 years.

The other meat to take note of is probably the fatty Iberico Pork and the Hokkaido Pork Belly

EXECUTION

Freshness preserved, thickeness sliced right, the grilling..you are the chef of your own beef. One or two slices per pax on the grill each time, do not overload your grill with beef, the beef burns fast and you probably would not want to overcook it.

Be there early, the gyutan sells out fast, the place is packed with Japanese. Their S$88 All You Can Eat is worth it, especially if you are big beef eater like us.
