Throwback on Railway Day (ééăŽćĽ Tetsudo no Hi)

The Goteik Viaduct (Burmese: ááŻááşááááşááśááŹá¸), nestled in the Shan State of Myanmar, is one of the worldâs oldest and highest operational train trestle. Spanning nearly 700m long, and with the tallest tower with a height of 102m, the Goteik Viaduct is the highest bridge in Myanmar. Even though it was built by the British in 1900 (over 100 years ago!), it is still very safe to ride on and remains a bucket-list train ride of many tourists seeking an out-of-this-world experience.
As the relic runs slow through the meandering hilly passes, I would recommend riding just between Nawngpeng and Pyin Oo Iwin, and travelling to/fro those stations and Mandalay by taxi.
You may consider include in your itinerary, a day around Pyin Oo Lwin and Hsipaw, both of which are stops along the train ride. For the Outdoor Adventure-Seekers, you can also trek from Hsipaw to Heho, where you will find Inle Lake, yet another favourite holiday stop of locals and foreigners.
